GÖTTERSPIELE
A parable about power and its abuse.
What is real, what is fake? A young woman falls into the clutches of two bored gods who play a perfidious game with her in which nothing is as it seems. They are everywhere where power is exercised. They use people, feel like "gods" and believe they can play fate. The goal: to maintain their power.
Two corrupt and depraved gods that nobody believes in anymore: Lee and Loh assert their power by playing fate with a random passer-by. They slip into strange identities in order to entangle the woman more and more in guilt and drive her to despair with adventurous tall tales.
At the deepest point of her disintegration, however, she sees through the game: In a bright moment, she sees the gods and begins to fight back.
Christian Haller and Thomas Fortmann developed the libretto in a joint process.
Based on his experience with rock and contemporary classical music, Thomas Fortmann brings together a variety of stylistic devices to form a unity and thus defines his very personal compositional style.
Clemens Lüthard's production adds a circus element to the text and musical level: with acrobatics, aerial artistry, juggling and elements of movement theater, an artist and mime takes over the action of the illusory character. The role of the passer-by is played by an artist who performs both musically and acrobatically.
